Typically, home energy upgrades come with a hefty price tag - on average stretching anywhere from $4,000 to $6,000.

Over the years, we've heard from countless D.C. residents who were eager to invest in energy improvements, but costs were a barrier.

We're excited to announce that now, for the first time, D.C. joins more than 30 other states in building a pool of qualified Home Performance contractors and in offering financing and financial incentives to homeowners.

Through our partnership with DC Sustainable Energy Utility (DC SEU), Groundswell is managing the DC Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program.

The recently launched program makes financing available to help more homeowners improve the comfort, safety and efficiency of their homes. It's part of a national program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. You can find out more about financing opportunities, on DC SEU's site.

Forgivable Loan for Low-Income Residents

Do you know a neighbor or family member on a fixed income who can't turn on their A/C because they can't afford the bill? To expand these opportunities to D.C. families who would benefit the most from reducing their monthly energy costs, DC Home Performance also includes a Forgivable Loan Fund for Low-Income Residents.

District homeowners who fall within specific income limits and live in single family homes, duplexes, townhouses, condos, cooperatives or manufactured/mobile housing titled as real estate may qualify for a Federal forgivable loan - up to $12,000 - for deep home energy upgrades. No payments are required and the loan is forgiven at 20 percent each year, over five years. For example, a household of four with an annual income less than $70,250 qualifies.

This is a limited time opportunity. Apply now or learn more by emailing  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  or calling:            1.855.MYDCSEU or 202.479.2222.

We're excited to partner with DC SEU to bring the benefits of home energy efficiency within reach for more D.C. residents.
